Our favourite photos from April 2021

The sun is shining today and, while I’m sat working from home staring at a laptop, I find my mind wandering to last April. It was a month to remember for two reasons. Number one: I got engaged on one of the beaches pictured below! And number two: the weather and views right on our doorstep at Tawelfor Cottage were simply spectacular.

With the recent mini-heatwave I am sooo ready for the warmer days to come, once again. So today is one of the easiest posts I’ve ever written. Check out my absolute favourite photos of April 2021 below.

P.S. I’m not a photographer and these were all taken with an iPhone 11.

This was taken right at the beginning of the month and it’s crazy how much difference April makes to the landscape. The rest of the photos you’ll see in this blog were all taken in mid or end of April 2021. But even in drizzle and bare branches, the beach looks magical here.

Location: Llanbedrog Beach

Taken just a few weeks later and the infamous white house of Llanbedrog beach is featured in this one - as it has been for literally thousands of photos before. The headland is just starting to bloom with the first greens in that dense, cliff-side woodland that always feels other-wordly to climb through before you pop onto the expansive headland above.

Now a classic taste of Spring - nature’s confetti really is exquisite over the peaceful churchyard. And the daffodils dotted around make this scene shine with Welshness. Did you know that the Welsh for Daffodil (their national flower) literally translates to ‘Peter’s leek’?

Even though it looks like you could amble down the hill to the beach, there is actually a huge drop off where I’m standing! Quarry beach in the sun is one of the most stunning views around our area and the sea looks mediterranean in this shot. After decades visiting the Llyn Peninsula, this is still one of the most beautiful days that sticks in my mind.

There is so much to love about this hidden gem, so it’s pictured twice! The gothic mansion is a must-see for anyone with an interest in architecture. Oh, and the other-wordly woodland I mentioned earlier…that all belongs to Plas Glyn y Weddw, which also boasts a gallery, tea rooms, museum, accomodation and even room for events - from conferences to weddings.

This is definitely a more moody shot but I love the movement in the cloudy sky. If you stare long enough the clouds might start to move towards you like they did on this windy day. Low tide makes the whole beach glisten and this photo also features two lovers on a romantic stroll with the beach practically to themselves.

Location: Warren Beach

Back to the glorious sunshine and I was in awe of the clear waters all around the coast on this day. It really did feel like you could be on holiday in a distant land. It was one of those days our corner of Wales comes into its own and you can see why it’s so special to so many.

Location: Llanbedrog Beach

Thought I’d break up the landscape views in my penultimate favourite photo of April 2021. I think my partner James had picked up a daisy and put it in my hair on our walk that day (not as romantic as it sounds as I probably had a few twigs in there too). But when it fell onto the sand in the wind it was the perfect contrast of colours and I took the opportunity to get ‘arty’.

An absolute cracker to finish with! This is the twin shot to my previous Quarry Beach photo - just further around the headland looking onto Warren Beach. I will literally never get bored of reliving the Tin Man Circular walk and the views.
